MERCHANTS OF EDINBURGH GOLF CLUB - "WITHIN A MILE OF EDINBORO' TOUN" WEB SITE NOT BEING UPDATED AS NEW VERSION TO BE RELEASED SHORTLY. The Merchants of Edinburgh Golf Club is centrally located in Edinburgh, capital of Scotland, one of Europe's leading tourist destinations and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The heading above is how a local newspaper described the club when it first opened in 1907, although in fact it is about two miles to the south of Edinburgh Castle. The article also said "The course is not a long one, but want of length is amply compensated by the continuous demand upon the player for skilful strokes". These words are as true today as they were then. Visitors and societies are very welcome to play on our course subject to the availability of tee times. To book in advance This undulating parkland type course of just under 5,000 yards in length is ideal for holiday golf and members like to think that "the Merchants" is one of the friendliest clubs in the Edinburgh area. Members are also very proud of their new clubhouse, opened in 2001. Excellent catering facilities are available there for visitors and members. You can also hire clubs and caddy cars from the professional's shop. If your golf is not up to its usual standard, never mind! You can always admire the magnificent views of Edinburgh including Arthur's Seat (an extinct volcano!), the Pentland Hills and Edinburgh Castle. The view of the Pentland Hills from the clubhouse is pretty impressive as well. Arthur's Seat can be seen in the background of the photograph above, which was taken in winter time by club member David Gill. Please have a good look around this site. If you have any questions, want to arrange to play golf or apply to join the club, please contact the Club Secretary. Page last changed on 16/06/08. | |||
