JOINING THE CLUB

"The Merchants" is a thriving Golf Club with just under a thousand members. Fortunately only a small percentage of these want to play at any one time! Membership offers you not only the opportunity to play (or learn to play) golf but also to take part in the active Social Life of the club if you wish to do so.

New applications for membership from Ladies and Gentlemen are always welcome from golfers of all standards. Local residents can apply to become (non golfing) House Members.

ORDINARY (ADULT) MEMBERSHIP

Ladies and Gentlemen have equal status and playing rights at "the Merchants". There is an active Ladies Section within the club which, in addition to organising competitions for Ladies, also arranges some functions which are solely for Lady Members.

Applicants have to pay a non-returnable deposit of £50 to join the waiting list for Ordinary (Adult) Membership. The current entry fee is £819, which can be paid in instalments over two years.

The current annual membership fee for Ordinary (Adult) Members is £546 (including a clubhouse development levy of £60.66. The Annual Levy is based on 12.5% of the Annual Subscription and will be allocated to the bank in reduction of capital borrowing for the purchase of the new Clubhouse. The annual fee can be paid by Direct Debit, for details please Contact the Club Secretary

Ideally applicants for Ordinary Membership should be sponsored by two current members of at least 2 years standing but it is recognised that this may not always be possible. In the latter case the applicant would be interviewed by the Captain and the Club Secretary.

One of the advantages of the Course is that members do not need to book a tee time in advance, they just turn up and play. Surprisingly, even in summer time significant waiting at the first tee seems to be fairly rare.

Another advantage is that the tenth tee is close to the clubhouse. If the first tee is busy, you can start from the tenth tee if no-one can be seen playing the ninth hole. You can also play twelve holes by playing the fourteenth after the seventh, if there is no-one playing the thirteenth.

Please explore this site to find out more about the club. To obtain a membership application form or if you have any questions about membership please Contact the Club Secretary.
