RETENTION OF HANDICAPS FOR 2003 - GENTS

Gents are reminded that in order to retain their handicaps it is now necessary to submit three Medal scores during the season. Failure to do this will result in the handicap being lapsed at the end of the season. See Gents (Starring/Lapsing of Handicaps) for details relating to the current season, which will also apply next year. The only exceptions to this rule are those who have been allocated a handicap during the current season and those whose handicaps have been restored after being lapsed last year. This latter category will have submitted three Medal cards in order to regain their handicaps. TOP

FYFFE'S BANANAS FUEL SEAN

The Merchants got a very favourable reference in an article in 'The Sun' on Saturday 22nd June. The club featured prominently in an article about the previous week's exploits of Sean Adams, who is playing all of Scotland's 386 golf courses in about 130 days for charity.

Seven handicapper Sean had played the Merchants the previous Wednesday and said 'I was given a fantastic welcome when I arrived at the Merchants of Edinburgh Club'. Sean was late arriving at MEGC having had a puncture resulting from having to swerve to avoid an accident.

He went on 'Remarkably vice-captain Wallace Fyffe was still waiting patiently and insisted on walking round with me. He kept me supplied with drinks and bananas then treated me to breakfast. Despite my VIP treatment and playing a fantastic* course the best I could manage was a 16 over par 81. My near miss had clearly rattled me'.

Anyone wishing to support Sean can send donations to Nationwide Building Society Home of Golf Marathon, a/c no. 0931/703 524 117, Stirling Branch.

(*dictionary definition of fantastic:- strange, weird or fanciful in appearance : incredible or preposterous : absurd)  TOP
